DVD: Borgen, Series 1 (Adam Price 2010)

Another Danish series to keep us going for weeks! "If only Julia Gillard would watch this!' we exclaimed several times during the first episode. It's The West Wing for a small nation.

Daytripper (Gabriel Bá and Fábio Moon 2010)

The last of my comic Christmas presents. It seems to be about death – many alternative deaths for the same person. The authors are Brazilian brothers.

The Artist (Michel Hazanavicius 2011)

My companion left after about half an hour, feeling that the movie was very well done but pointless. I was captivated, and the final moment caught me right off guard so I left the theatre wiping my eyes.

DVD: Justified (Graham Yost, Season 1, 2010)

Elmore Leonard is executive producer, and this is based on one of his short stories. On the strength of the first episode, this is excellent. Timothy Olyphant is a charming gunslinging hero.

Bad Doings & Big Ideas (Bill Willingham 2011)

Another Christmas present from a family member kindly abetting me in my exploration of the world of comics. This deluxe omnibus is enticing, as a quick flip through shows a number of characters from Neil Gaiman's epic Sandman.

Cold Light (Frank Moorhouse 2011)

Our next Book Group title. I haven't read any Frank Moorhouse since, oh, The Electrical Experience, and I'm looking forward to this, even though it's the third in a series.

Ampersand 4 (Alice Gage, editor 2011)

'An Australian curiosity journal' – curious as in wanting to know rather than weird, mainly.

Return of the Dapper Men (Jim McCann 2010)

Another Christmas present, a comic that looks like fun.

India India (Southerly 3/2010)

I bought this for Jennifer Maiden's poem, 'The Year of the Ox', and am staying to read on.
